Mac Computers: Installing & Launching the Remote Desktop Connection Application

In order to connect to your Remote Desktop using a Mac computer, please follow the guide below.

1.  Open "Safari", using the icon on the dock, as shown below.

2. Once open, browse to: http://microsoft.com/mac/downloads then select ‘Remote Desktop’ on the left side, under "Products"

3. Select “Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1” then select the “Download” button as shown below:

4. A new window will open. Select "Download" once more to download the RDC application.

5. Once the download has completed, the installation files will appear in the “Downloads” window on the Mac. To open this, select the “Downloads” icon on the dock. Then select “Open in Finder” as shown below.

6. When the "Downloads" window opens, select the file which has just downloaded. In this case it is: “RDC_2.1.1_ALL.dmg”

7. Select the “RDC Installer” package as shown below.

8. The application installation procedure will then begin. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the application installation process.

9. Once the installation completes, an on screen message will then confirm that the RDC Application has installed successfully.

10. Once installed, select the “Remote Desktop Connection” icon from the dock, as highlighted below.


11. A window similar to the one shown below will open. Enter the computer name. (This will be provided by your technical contact)

12. Enter your account details into the relevant fields. (These details will be provided by your technical contact)

13. Once the user credentials have been entered, the following message will appear. Click “Connect” to continue.

14. You should now be connected to your Remote Desktop, as shown below.
