Print out contains garbled characters when printing from Terminal Services on a Windows 2008 Server

Issue:

When you print to your local printer from a Windows 2008 terminal server the printout may contain garbled characters.

Solution:

This is a known issue with the easy print system used by Windows 2008. To resolve the issue you need to install a hot fix from Microsoft. The hotfix is detailed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946411 you will need to call the following number to obtain the hotfix 0870 60 10 100

Before installing the hotfix you will need to check if you have .NET 3.0 SP1 installed. This can be done by opening add/remove programs. If you have a later version installed .NET 3.5 for example then you will need to remove this and install .NET 3.0 SP1. This can be downloaded from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ec2ca85d-b255-4425-9e65-1e88a0bdb72a

Once .NET 3.0 SP1 has been installed you will need to install the hotfix provided by Microsoft.
