Configuring the Microsoft Remote Desktop application for MacOS

The Microsoft Remote Desktop application for MacOS can be downloaded from the AppStore, and accessed via Launchpad, or through the Applications folder in Finder. Once installed, the following steps can be used to configure a connection to a YOA server.

A step-by-step video tutorial is also available, and can be found at the bottom of this article.

1. Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop application and open Preferences... to specify user account credentials and configure a gateway required for access to a YOA server.

2. Click the User Accounts tab, and then the icon to add the credentials needed to sign into a YOA server.

New user account credentials, and password reminders can be provided by the YOA Helpdesk.

3. Type in a valid YOA account username and password. A Friendly name can also be provided. Click Add to apply these changes.

4.  Click the Gateways tab, and then the icon to add the gateway server details needed to sign into a YOA server.

5. Type in the YOA gateway name below. A Friendly name can also be provided. Ensure that Use PC User Account has been selected from the User account drop-down menu. Click Add to apply these changes.

6. Close the Preferences window, and click Add PC from either main window, or via the drop-down menu.

7. Type in a YOA server name into the PC name field, and select the user account created previously from the User account drop-down menu. An optional Friendly name can also be provided. Select the gateway created previously from the Gateway drop-down menu.

A YOA server name can be provided by the YOA Helpdesk.

8. If the Mac has additional screens connected, the remote desktop can be set to use all monitors by selecting the Display tab, and selecting the Use all monitors option.

9. Printers configured on the Mac can be redirected for use with the remote desktop by going to the Devices & Audio tab and selecting the Printers option.

10. Click Add to apply these changes, and double-click the new shortcut that appears on the main window to sign into the YOA server. Click Continue on the certificate warning to continue the server sign-in.

The certificate warning can be removed, by clicking Show Certificate, selecting the Always trust "server name" when connecting to "server name" option, and clicking ContinueDoing so will prompt for the local Mac account credentials to update these settings.

11. Once singed in successfully, all available applications shortcuts will appear on the remote desktop.
