Remove Cached Credentials From Microsoft Remote Desktop Client

Server account credentials can become stored (cached) within the Microsoft Remote Desktop client. This causes the Microsoft Remote Desktop client to sign into a terminal server with these credentials automatically. These credentials will need removing if a different accounts needs to be used to access the terminal server.

1. Right-click the RDP file for the terminal server, and select Edit

If using Windows 11, click Show more options first.

2. Select the Advanced tab, and then Settings...

3. Click delete under the Logon settings section, and then OK.

4. Click back to the General tab and click the delete option under the username. Click Save.

5. When reconnecting to the remote desktop, click More choices, and then Use a different account to type in new credentials.

Clicking Remember me will cache these credentials, so they'll be used by default when connecting to the server going forward.
